1537Lady Jane Grey was born on 12 October 1537 at Bradgate Park near Leicester, England. Her sisters were Catherine Grey and Mary Grey.

Lady Jane Grey was educated at Hatfield by tutors from Cambridge University. She shared her education with the young King Edward VI, Princess Elizabeth and Jane's sisters Catherine and Mary Grey

1546Lady Jane Grey was sent to live as the ward of the 35-year old Katherine Parr
 

1546Thomas Seymour, husband of Katherine Parr, attempted to marry Jane off to Edward VI but a match with Princess Elisabeth of France (Henry II of France's daughter) was already being arranged so his plan failed
 

1549Thomas Seymour plotted against Edward Seymour and was executed on 20th March 1549
 

1552Edward Seymour was deposed by John Dudley, 1st Earl of Warwick, and executed in January 1552
 

1553John Dudley arranged for the marriage of his son to Guildford Dudley to Lady Jane Grey. John Dudley then persuaded the sickly Edward to name Lady Jane Grey as his heir. Princess Mary and Princess Elizabeth had both been declared illegitimate
 

1553May 1553, Jane was betrothed to Guildford Dudley

25 May 1553: Jane was married to Guildford at Durham House, London
 


15536 July 1553 - The young King Edward VI died of tuberculosis and he left the throne to 'the Lady Jane Grey and her heirs male.'

Insurrection was led by Henry Grey, duke of Suffolk whose daughter, Jane was married to the son of John Dudley, Lord Guildford Dudley, as part of a plot to alter the succession

Monday 10th July 1553 - Lady Jane Grey was Proclaimed Queen of England (Queen for just Nine Days)

19th July 1553 Queen Jane was deposed as Queen

Monday 23 August 1553 - John Dudley was executed on Tower Hill

6 July 1553 - Catholic Mary I, daughter of King Henry VIII and Katherine of Aragon, is proclaimed Queen of England after receiving support from the English population

Lady Jane Grey and her husband, Guildford Dudley, were imprisoned in the Tower of London - Queen Mary I showed them clemency and refused to sign their death warrants


1554Thursday 25th January - the Protestant Wyatt Rebellion led by Thomas Wyatt who was the son of the poet Sir Thomas Wyatt. The Protestant rebellion failed but fears of using Lady Jane Grey as a rallying point for English Catholics led to only one conclusion - that Lady Jane Grey must die

12th February 1554 - Lady Jane Grey and her husband, Guildford Dudley, were executed at the Tower of London
